Joy Behar reunites with former schoolteacher who also taught Whoopi Goldberg
In a heartwarming live broadcast, Joy Behar, co-host of The View, took a trip down memory lane. The 81-year-old ended Friday’s show by acknowledging her former schoolteacher, Bret Schlesinger, who was present in the studio audience.
“Before we go, I want to give a shout-out to a teacher that I had back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. His name is Bret Schlesinger, and he wrote this wonderful book, Understanding Education: Why Schools Don’t Work and How to Fix Them. Congratulations!” Behar said as the camera panned to show Schlesinger beaming in his chair.
Behar humorously commented on her high school picture featured in Schlesinger’s book, which was displayed onscreen during the show.
“What kind of hairdo is that?” Behar joked, before revealing that Schlesinger also taught her 68-year-old co-host and regular moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, whom Behar substitutes for on Fridays. “I should mention, also, that he taught at Washington Irving High School: Whoopi Goldberg, and me!”
In another segment of the show, Goldberg delved into her past to announce her upcoming memoir, Bits, and Pieces, inspired by the lives and deaths of her mother, Emma Harris, and older brother, Clyde Johnson, with whom she grew up in New York City.
